Pregnancy and Postpartum Support
Pregnancy can be an amazing time, but it can also come with huge challenges - we are here to offer support to women at all stages of pregnancy. Whether it’s looking at nutrition to target terrible nausea or constipation, or, simply helping you tailor your diet to best support your growing baby our personalised nutrition plans are there for you.
Acupuncture is a safe and highly effective treatment modality during pregnancy, a time when normal medication is often not permitted. Acupuncture provides relief from common pregnancy-related symptoms and has varying benefits in each trimester.
The postpartum period is one of the most transformative times in a woman’s life. We’re here to help ease the physical and emotional recovery process. Our acupuncture and nutrition services focus on restoring your energy, breastfeeding support (including increasing milk supply and mastitis), rebalancing your hormones, and supporting emotional well-being as you adjust to life with your new baby.
How Acupuncture Supports Pregnancy
Early Pregnancy: Acupuncture is particularly effective in alleviating early pregnancy symptoms such as nausea (morning sickness) and exhaustion. Many of our clients find relief from persistent sickness and feel more energised after their sessions.
Throughout Pregnancy: As pregnancy progresses, acupuncture can support the body in managing common discomforts like constipation, heartburn, sciatica, and back pain. By promoting better circulation and balancing the body’s energy (qi), acupuncture helps address these issues without the need for medication.
Later Stages of Pregnancy: During the later stages of pregnancy, acupuncture can help with turning a breech baby and preparing the body for labour. After 41 weeks, acupuncture may also be used to naturally induce labour by stimulating the body’s mechanisms for a timely delivery.
Acupuncture for Labor Preparation
One of the most effective uses of acupuncture during pregnancy is cervical ripening—the softening and opening of the cervix in preparation for labor and delivery. Research has shown that acupuncture for cervical ripening provides impressive results:
Decreased need for pain medication during labor (including epidurals)
Reduced likelihood of needing medical induction
Shorter duration of active labor
For best results, we recommend starting weekly acupuncture sessions from week 35/36 of your pregnancy.
